Our Know-how and Capabilities

Lean manufacturing

How can we make the best use of time and make it complement our resources?

At OMS we have answered this important question with, perhaps, one of the most important working philosophies in history: Lean thinking.

Here effectiveness and efficiency are combined in a single objective: to realise the product or service the customer wants at the lowest cost, with the highest quality, and in the shortest possible time.

The Lean philosophy is global and covers all the main business processes: from the flow of materials in production to the flow of information in the offices, to the new product development process. OMS has always focused on its customers and has always invested in technology and human capital to provide a satisfactory service.
Our 5 guiding principles that outline an effective and efficient model are:

  • Defining Value from the customer’s perspective;
  • Eliminating waste;
  • Keeping all activities flowing without pauses or interruptions;
  • Setting up activities according to ‘pull’ and not ‘push’ logic (carrying out an activity only when the downstream process requires it);
  • Pursuing perfection through continuous improvement.

Advanced machining

On average, OMS reinvests around 30% of its annual turnover in the purchase of new machinery, upgrading to the state-of-the-art technologies that contribute to increased productivity and competitiveness:

  • Machine Tools (Traditional Subtractive Technologies – Additive Technologies)
  • CMM machines
  • Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS)
  • Tooling & Equipment
  • ERP software
  • CAD/CAM/CAE
  • Toolpath simulation (simulate CNC machining)
  • Industry 4.0
  • Big Data Analysis
  • IoT
  • Machine Learning

The high level of automation reduces production costs and delivery times, while ensuring that the high quality standards required by the industry are maintained. With this level of competitiveness, the company can now present itself in the domestic and foreign markets as one of the few high-level alternatives to the low-cost proposals coming from emerging countries.

The mechanical machining sector for the manufacture of precision components is, in fact, a very delicate one, as it requires the coexistence of two fundamental factors: innovation in terms of specific knowledge and skills on the part of the technical personnel in charge, and innovation at a technological level thanks to the use of latest-generation machinery capable of guaranteeing maximum precision in the production of any type of mechanical artefact.

Our goal is to become your added value

We are driven by a continuous quest for excellence in every single aspect, from the most advanced production systems to the most innovative materials, coatings and treatments. Our certifications show our level of expertise and quality. Our passion mirrors our commitment to the pursuit of the best product and beyond.

Engineering

Our technical department handles all types of analysis, simulation and studies for any type of mechanical component required.

With over 40 years of experience with special materials and processes, the OMS engineering and development department also works to find new solutions to customer problems.

Our engineers are trained to be able to handle both work orders based on supplied drawings and to develop new products to be proposed to customers as new or future business opportunities.

Machining

State-of-the-art five-axis machining centres and 7-axis turning centres ensure maximum productivity for high-precision and complex production.

With more than 40 years of experience, OMS has an extremely state-of-the-art production area for precision machining, with more than 30 state-of-the-art CNC machines capable of quickly and flexibly machining materials such as aluminium, titanium, Inconel and super steel alloys. OMS employs qualified people and specialised engineers and technicians who represent the company’s added value. Continuous staff training, hardware and software upgrades of the machining centres allow production to be run efficiently and competitively. Our machining operations include:

  • Milling up to 5 axes
  • Multitasking turning
  • Superfinishing
  • Cylindrical and face grinding
  • Lapping

Additive manufacturing

OMS leverages additive manufacturing technology to offer Additive Manufacturing as an off-the-shelf solution for the production of aerospace and industrial parts.

With significant experience gained in recent years in research and development programmes, the proposed additive manufacturing solution complements our production and machining offerings.

In addition to the supply of finished mechanical parts, we also offer consultancy to redesign in additive manufacturing components produced with traditional techniques.

Quality

Product quality is guaranteed by a scrupulous control carried out over the entire supply chain, from the acceptance of incoming raw material to the finished product before outgoing delivery. All controls are recorded internally in order to create an extensive database of information necessary for continuous quality improvement.

The control equipment undergoes periodic calibration and certification by certified bodies.

A declaration of conformity of our products is issued, together with a dimensional bulletin, material certificate and certificate of any external processing (e.g. surface treatment).

Industrial assembly

In the modern OMS3 plant in Colleferro (RM), industrial assembly activities in the electrical conduction sector are carried out.

As an integrated supplier of the multinational ABB, OMS is committed every day to developing technical and production skills by setting standards in a context of continuous infrastructural growth, and is committed to constantly overseeing the entire supply chain (from engineering to the production of each individual component, up to the management of the procurement of outsourced parts).

Automated and semi-automated lines in the lean production concept, collaborative robots and customised lines allow costs to be cut while maintaining product quality.
Incoming activities and final tests allow OMS to be a vertical company, positioning itself on the market as a reliable partner.

On Time Delivery and quality aspects are the two pillars around which we develop our current and future business.
